Major Award Tops Off Milestone Year for GCCM

Gold Coast City Marina & Shipyard (GCCM) has been voted Australasia’s Best Superyacht Marina at the inaugural ACREW Business Awards. 2020 has been a year in which GCCM has celebrated its 20th anniversary, completed major superyacht refit projects on SuRi and Dragonfly, and taken a step closer to a major expansion of its facilities. The award from ACrew is fitting for a marina which prides itself on its high level of service and wealth of expertise.

Selected by a 15,000 strong network of crew and captains, the voting was based on the marina that provided the best standard of services and facilities to visiting superyachts, as well as a willingness to assist guests in ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

We are humbled and proud to be recognised by this award,” said GCCM CEO Trenton Gay. “We share it with all of our onsite tenants and partners. It is truly a team effort.” Earlier this year, GCCM expanded their onsite marine talent pool to over 80 businesses employing in excess of 700 marine contractors, many of whom are leading service providers in their fields.

When we launched the concept of GCCM over 20 years ago, continued Mr Gay, “our aim was to design the best marina and shipyard facility which would be the base for Australia’s leading marine trades offering the very best in customer service and quality. We believe we have achieved this and through ongoing investment, improvements and expansion of the site, we continue to meet the needs of the global superyacht fleet.”

GCCM’s prestige has been recognised in the growing number of international yachting companies that are choosing the facility as their preferred partner, the latest to do so being Gulf Craft in March 2020.

2020 saw GCCM complete a revolutionary in-water refinish of 63m superyacht SuRi, while the Australia shipyard was also recognised for its efforts towards sustainability with a 100% score by the Marina Industries Association in a Clean Marina audit.

The ACrew Business Awards were launched in 2020 to celebrate the leaders in Superyacht Marinas, Provisioning Companies, Insurance Companies and Superyacht Agents for each region. A panel of senior captains narrowed the nominations to a select short list on which ACrew’s international network of 15,000 crew and captains voted for their favourite.

The winners were announced in a virtual ceremony on 7 December 2020. GCCM came out on top in the category for Best Superyacht Marina in Australasia, though a notable mention must be given to luxury Whitsundays marina Coral Sea Marina Resort, who followed as runners up.

With plans in place to double the footprint of Gold Coast City Marina in the coming years, there is no doubt that the marina is only going to get better as Queensland continues to work towards establishing a major superyacht hub in the Asia Pacific.
