Perfectly located in the heart of Barcelona, the hub of Mediterranean sailing, lies the renowned superyacht marina, Marina Port Vell. Originally built during the 1992 Olympic Games, today the marina is a strategic industrial player for the city and an important economic driver for the Catalan coast. This year, the marina is going one step further, with its announcement of signing an agreement to be the Preferred Superyacht Marina for the iconic 37th annual America’s Cup 2024.

Taking place between August and October 2024, the 37th edition of the America’s Cup sailing regatta will be held in the beautiful European city of Barcelona. A series of ‘Preliminary Regattas’, as part of the journey to the Louis Vuitton 37th America’s Cup Barcelona, have already begun, with the first race taking place in September in Vilanova i La Geltrú, Spain, and the second regatta taking place between the 29th of November to the 2nd of December 2023, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Marking the third and final regatta of the Cup, the 2024 Barcelona race is set to be nothing short of a spectacle, with the nearby course-front Marina Port Vell now expected to host dozens of superyachts and ultra-high-net-worth individuals from around the world over the two months.

Already recognised as a key yachting hub for superyachts due to its strategic location, luxury tourism and high-quality facilities, as well as being one in a handful of sustainable marinas, Marina Port Vell is undoubtedly perfectly positioned to be the preferred superyacht marina for the sailing event next year.

Significantly investing in its superyacht facilities for the past two years, construction at Marina Port Vell is currently underway for a 20-million-euro project which is aimed at specialising and responding to the needs and requirements of the superyacht industry. New infrastructure, new innovative and sustainable facilities and additional efficient services are set to provide owners, captains and crew with a carefree, luxury experience from start to finish. A notable addition to the marina is the build of 23 new berths for vessels up to 70m; significantly expanding the opportunities for superyachts. This work is due for completion at the end of this year: just in time for the America’s Cup.

During the competition, Marina Port Vell will offer 110 berths for superyachts, with dozens of yachts and superyachts having already booked mooring space across the summer months.

Over the duration of the regatta, Marina Port Vell is set to put on a vast array of experiences for those visiting or berthing there, with a dedicated team focused on providing high value added services. A ‘sophisticated shopping experience’, inclusive of an exclusive boutique with premium offerings, is just one example, with the other being the marina’s agreement with three Michelin-starred chefs and brothers, Hermanos Torres, to offer a unique dining experience during the regatta period.

Alongside this, several exclusive events and ‘ad-hoc’ experiences will be taking place. In accordance with leading international brands, parties will be held at the marina’s award-winning, waterfront event spaces, including its flagship space, ‘The Sea Garden’; ‘The Blue Wave’, which was awarded the Best Bar in the World in 2016 by the prestigious Restaurant & Bar Design Awards; and the recently refurbished ‘The Galler

Despite the second preliminary race yet to begin, Barcelona is eagerly awaiting the summit of the final regatta next year, with preparations already underway and a celebratory countdown for the teams installed since July. The British team INEOS Britannia has been installed at the Spanish dock, and the America’s Cup Experience, with direct access from Marina Port Vell, has opened its doors nearby for fans and visitors to discover more about the history, the rules, the teams and the secrets of this iconic sailing regatta.

With brand new developments, a host of premium services, and unmatched facilities, it is an obvious choice that Marina Port Vell will be the perfect location to live the 37th edition of the America’s Cup.
