MOON SAND: Lürssen Engineering Meets Bannenberg & Rowell Design

By Sophia Spanton

There are yachts, and then there is MOON SAND. A 55.5-metre Lürssen beauty where contemporary design and bespoke craftsmanship meet the boundless horizons of the open sea. Delivered in 2021 and currently listed for sale with Cecil Wright and Edmiston, MOON SAND stands out for her striking Bannenberg & Rowell design, her flexible, family-focused layout, and a suite of one-of-a-kind details, including a show-stopping pink marble bathroom in the owner’s suite. Every element on board, from the panoramic windows to the custom furnishings, is a testament to the art and innovation at the heart of modern superyacht design.

MOON SAND offers a wealth of spaces for every mood. The main deck aft is home to a remarkable swimming pool with a rise-and-fall floor and a counter-current system, perfect for both leisure and exercise. The sun deck, upgraded in 2024 by AZURE Yacht Design, now boasts enhanced wind protection, a new jacuzzi, additional sun pads, and expanded dining options. The bridge deck features a circular dining table with a Lazy Susan for up to 12 guests, a sky lounge configured for games and relaxation, and a fully equipped gym.

The main salon, brought to life by Bannenberg & Rowell, offers a masterclass in light and texture. Instead of traditional drapes, the windows are framed by glass over an ombré mesh, creating a play of light and shadow while maintaining privacy. The interior is punctuated by unique pieces from Silverlining, Frank Pollaro, and Linley, each a work of art in its own right. The use of opulent fabrics and furnishings, with accents of sky and teal blue against warm neutrals, creates an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere. There is artistry in every detail.

The owner’s suite, situated forward on the main deck, is a private retreat complete with its own entrance lobby, a generous walk-in wardrobe, and separate ‘his and hers’ en suites. A standout feature, and a talking point among those who step aboard, is the magnificent marble bathroom in the owner’s suite. The bathtub and rare pink marble were personally selected by the owner’s wife during a trip to Italy, resulting in a space that is both luxurious and deeply personal. The pink marble bathroom is not only a testament to bespoke design but also a symbol of the collaborative spirit that defined MOON SAND’s creation.

MOON SAND is equipped with stabilisers for comfort both at anchor and underway, cruises at 13 knots, and offers a 5,000-nautical-mile range in low-emission mode. Ahead of the 2025 summer season, both generators will be zero hour’d for optimal performance.

‘MOON SAND is simply exquisite and the epitome of a quality Lürssen blended with world-class interiors by Bannenberg and Rowell’ as Henry Goulding of Cecil Wright states. For those seeking a yacht that balances heritage with innovation, family comfort with artistry, and engineering with elegance, MOON SAND is a rare opportunity.
