MYS 2021: Growth and Stability with Ocean Independence

By Freya Cottrell

Joined by Sales Director of Ocean Independence Toby Maclaurin, we discussed everything from ‘brokerage bounce back’, global expansion and the stylish 48-metre Azzura II exhibited at the show. Not only this, we explore how consumer trends have shifted and what the ambitious company see as a key trend across the brokerage sector.

As charter trends and sales take an interesting shape industry wide, it seems Toby Maclaurin, Sales Director of Ocean Independence had plenty of good news to share.

So what did 2020-2021 look like for the company? “We are selling more yachts now that we really have ever done” shared Toby Maclaurin. With a stable portfolio of fleet members both for sale and for charter, it seems the brokerage has held a strong and stable position, lead by a committed team, "As summer evolved, we had the most amazing renaissance. Not only in charter but also in sales and purchase.

The new opening of Ocean Independence’s Hamburg office remains a great example of this. Growth, therefore, seems an inevitable future for the company.

Azzura II, the 48-metre CRN vessel is a ready-to-charter opportunity well received at the show this year. Kept in meticulous condition by her Owner and has been continuously upgraded, she comes with a dedicated crew of 12 and is an excellent charter yacht for a luxury escape. "Anyone who is cautious about buying an older yacht, should come and have a look at Azzura II" shares Toby. "It really goes to show, with proper maintainence and care, an older yacht can look just as good as a newer yacht."

COVID-19 for many industries may have disrupted business, however for yachting it is clear UHNW’s need for privacy, isolation and valuable time with family remains a driving factor across sale and charter. The diverse portfolio at Ocean Independence reflects a bright future across the changing landscape that is brokerage.

"We are still riding that wave now. The bounce-back, as people are calling it, is phenomenal."
