MYS 2021: Pioneering Design with Luxury Projects

By Freya Cottrell

Joining us in our studio at the Monaco Yacht Show, CEO of Luxury Projects, Laura Pomponi, divulged to us how the studio has adapted over the past eighteen months and the positives that have arisen from working through the pandemic.

With the last eighteen months bringing an enormous amount of change on the world as a whole, we were curious as to what positives had come out of the pandemic for the design studio: "We delivered 70m Benetti Alfa, a big refit on motor yacht Nero, and then recently we delivered an Amels 60m." comments CEO of Luxury Projects, Laura Pomponi.

Luxury Projects does not restrict its designing talents just to the superyacht industry but as the company has a recent portfolio of large superyachts, we were curious about the challenges that occur when accepting large design briefs:  "Alfa, the Benetti, is a custom build. Designed from scratch for a private owner where you have to translate the breif and the concept which has been really challenging." shares the CEO.  "Nero has been a twelve month refit doing maintainence work [...] so a totally different process".

Overcoming design challenges is not a new phenomenon for the luxury design studio, having worked on superyacht projects such as NERO and ALFA, both 70m+ vessels. But, the company's newest challenge was that of sustainability within the design sector: "We have successfully joined the sustainability yacht designer task force which has been launched today as an official task force of designers collaborating together to work on improving our ways towards the planet." commented Pomponi."Using green technologies and reducing the ecological footprint on all we do with our yachts."

Finally, Laura Pomponi enlightened us on what the future of Luxury Projects may look like; we had no doubt that it would be full of talented artists and beautiful designs:  "We are working on projects of 60m to 75m plus." commented the CEO. "trying to being organisation and creativity together".
