MYS 2022: Alpha Marine on Greece's Booming Superyacht Industry

By Heather Collier

On the third day of the Monaco Yacht Show, Superyachts.com sat down with Aristotelis Betsis, Lead Yacht Designer, and Eleni Dafna, Design Department Member of Alpha Marine to discuss their collaborative partnerships with research programmes, and ultimately the future of green yachting.

Highly tuned into sustainability trends, from hybrid and electric propulsion systems to researching new innovative ways to reduce our carbon footprint, Alpha Marine appear to be moving with the times; recognising the important role that eco-friendly yachting plays in the health of our oceans.

We have a holistic perspective," says Aristotelis Betsis.

Alpha Marine has always been involved in a number of research programmes and centres for many years. We have been informed about technology, and continue to propose it to our clients. It enables architecture to optimise hulls, reduce emisisons, and keep up with environmentally friendly new systems, both during build and the usage of the vessel."

Sustainability continues to lie at the heart of everyone's focus this year at the show.

"It has always been part of the ethos of the company," says Eleni Dafna, who goes on to talk about the flourishing superyacht industry within Greece; with many yacht owners viewing Greece as an ultimate cruising destination, and in some sense the perfect getaway.

"Weve seen a great strength in the Greek superyacht market. Our clients and owners want to spend far more time on board."
