MYS 2022: DeBasto Design Shares New 41m With Amer Yachts

By Heather Collier

Miami-based Luiz de Basto from DeBasto Design joined us in the Superyachts.com Interview Studio to discuss the secret behind preserving a life-long career in the luxury industry.

DeBasto leads with the sentiment "passion, vision, and light". These are the three cornerstones of progressive design, and a major source of inspiration for his work.

We asked him why these factors are integral when designing opulent spaces like that of a modern day superyacht.

"First of all, the passion for good work. The passion for a job well done. There's a huge pleasure in seeing the clients happy and seeing the designs out there and appreciated," explains De Basto.

"When shipyards come to us, they are looking for something special. Light is everything, particularly when used within glass. Vision is important when working closely with clients. Experience creates form, and form follows function."

After being involved in the superyacht industry for three decades, with than 200 boats and yachts for in over 15 countries, De Basto shares what has made his brand such a huge success in an ever-evolving industry.

"I don't stop at just a generic idea. I try to propose new ideas that are sometimes on the very edge of the possible."

DeBasto has also announced their latest collaboration with Amer Yachts. The project, a brand new 41m, was unveiled a matter of days ago and has been teased to boast some interesting features.

Commissioned at the beginning of 2022, the explorer vessel is expected for delivery in early 2025 and will be able to accommodate up to 10 guests across five staterooms, as well as eight crew members.

DeBasto goes on to explain how this project is very dear to his heart, particularly as it is now the owner's second yacht penned by the design house.

"First of all, the passion for good work. The passion for a job well done. There's a huge pleasure in seeing the clients happy and seeing the designs out there and appreciated."
