MYS 2022: The Limitless Creativity of Winch Design

By Emily Dawkins

We were delighted to welcome Winch Design CEO Aino Grapin to our interview studio on day one of the Monaco Yacht Show. We discussed the latest news from the British design studio, including the brand-new announcement of a partnership with Heesen, and heard how Winch is designing for the future with limitless creativity.

Announcing a brand-new partnership with Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts is just the start of an exciting year for Winch Design. ‘It’s a true explorer and a true superyacht’  CEO Aino Grapin told us of the brand-new XV67 Heesen vessel, which will feature both interior and exterior design by the studio.

‘It's a new and improved, and larger, explorer, - which we are excited about…it’s ready for adventure.’

The new concept launch is not the only vessel that the design studio has its name to at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. The brand-new Amels 60 COME TOGETHER, the Amels 89m award-winning refit HERE COMES THE SUN, as well as Lurssen’s PHOENIX 2, designed both inside and out by Winch, are just some of the stand-out yachts that are currently on display at the show.

So what makes Winch stand out in yacht design? ‘We all have to have our point of difference - we refuse to be constrained by house look’, commented Grapin, ‘there's a great variety in what we can do because what we love to do is relentless creativity and limitless creativity.’

‘Relentless creativity is really what it's about with us…we never do the same thing twice.’

With Winch design now 100% employee-owned, the CEO explains how the studio has found this the best way to attract new talent for those designing the future generation of Winch superyachts: ‘It's a way in which we hope to develop and empower this new talent.’

For Winch, the next few years are set to be busy. With 16 yachts currently in build and 13 in the pipeline, Grapin is excited for the future of both the industry and Winch Design: ‘the industry is buoyant and so are we’.

We are looking forward to keeping our readers updated with the latest from Winch Design.
