MYS 2023: Bahamas Welcomes Friends From Abroad to Join Their Family

By Sophia Spanton

Today in the interview studio we were joined by John Pinder, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, for the Islands of the Bahamas. He had an abundance to say about the Bahamas, yachting in the Bahamas, the exceptional destinations, and welcoming friends from abroad with open arms.

The first thing Pinder pointed out was that the Monaco Yacht Show, ‘is the epitome of what luxury and technology brings to the yachting industry’, and he noted that one salient thing that the Bahamas and the Monaco Yacht Show have in common is their shared ‘love of the sea’.

He spoke about the dozens of marinas that can accommodate superyachts throughout the islands, ‘you can really spend your whole vacation on different islands and never find the same thing twice. The experiences are vastly different’. Some of these include: Bakers Bay, Albany, Palm Key, Remorse Bay, Hurricane Hole in Atlantis, Valentines in Harbour Island with pink sand beaches, and Abaco Beach Resort, and that’s just to name a few, ‘each island is unique’.

John Pinder said it best, ‘The Bahamas has really something for everybody’. He explained that they are, ‘focusing towards the superyacht community, and there are a lot of new marinas in the pipeline to explore our other islands that people may not know’.

Whilst the beauty of the islands is something to marvel at, it is the culture of the Bahamas that is the true allure. The atmosphere of the onshore events and festivals, the sounds, colours, and the feeling of being there is something that cannot be replicated anywhere else in the world.

When discussing how the local culture adds a unique element to people experiencing the superyacht lifestyle in the Bahamas, it became clear there was only one answer, the people of the Bahamas. ‘What's really special is getting to know the locals’, commented the Parliamentary Secretary the experience and relationships that vacationers find with the locals of the Bahamas is unique and rare to find anywhere else.

‘We don't refer to our tourism populists as tourists, we refer to them as our friends from abroad.'
