MYS 2023: BOND TM on Exponential Growth of Tech on Board
Will Faimatea, the Founder and Director of Bond TM, shared some interesting insights today in our interview studio at the Monaco Yacht Show. Faimtea discussed the increasing growth of technology onboard superyachts, how advanced technology onboard can help crew, gadgets at Bond's lounge located at the show, as well as sharing some interesting plans on air quality and sustainability.
Bond TM provides consultancies for audio visual, IT, security and communication systems on behalf of the client. All within the high tech field, it's fascinating to discuss how technology has evolved, specifically within the marine industry. Our host Shari Liu began by asking the Founder and Director what he can tell us about the exponential growth of technology in superyachts, Faimtea shared: ‘the evolution [of technology] on yachts has just gone in line with the rest of technology, it’s a parallel with what's happening in the rest of the world’.
With clients and owners being the foremost topic of conversation when discussing superyacht services, it was refreshing to hear Faimatea discuss how the crew on board benefit from the ever-advancing technology on board superyachts. ‘We noticed we are able to increase the run time of these systems’, essentially leaving these systems more reliable, and therefore leaving the yachting crew and captains with one less stress.
Following on from innovative technology, the Bond TM lounge, located at the show, had some mind-staggering gadgets to talk about. Faimtea explained on the stand they were showcasing the Bang & Olufsen Oled Display, ‘it’s basically a clear piece of glass when its off, and then you are able to watch TV or a film with it on, and when you look at the other side, you can see you through it’. The purpose of this is from a design perspective, eliminating the dark black screen that is left in the room when the TV is turned off.
Finally left to discuss is Bond TMs plunge into air quality and sustainability. Faimatea explained he started this journey just before Covid ‘and no one was really interested, it was a hard sell speaking about air quality’. The journey began when the question arose, ‘how do they know what's coming out of an air conditioning system…you need to change the filter… but how do you know when and do you know what's coming out’.
