MYS 2023: Echo Yachts Prosper from Refits and New Launches

By Sophia Spanton

During the Monaco Yacht Show this year, the interview studio welcomed Chris Blackwell, Sales and Marketing Manager of Echo Yachts. Echo yachts have been busy recently, having launched a new motor yacht and undertaken a new refit project the custom superyacht builder is making waves in the industry.

Echo Yachts recently launched the 56m Catamaran motor yacht, Charley 2. She is similar to Charley built in 2017 but is set apart by a few differences, ‘this one now is about forty percent larger, even though it’s only six metres longer…and we’ve changed the hull from being a composite hull to being an aluminium hull’. Despite being a much larger vessel with the same size engine as Charley, she still has the same range and speed, proving that she is very efficient. Charley 2 is on track to be delivered to her owner in the next couple of weeks however she is currently undertaking sea trials.

Not only is Echo Yachts a superyacht builder but they are also involved with refitting, from what we heard there's a range of refitting projects Echo Yachts takes on such as ‘adding helicopter pads, to extending hulls, full re-paints’, Blackwell commented on how it ‘actually makes up a reasonable amount of our projects now’.

Something that is definitely worth mentioning is the refit project Echo Yachts is working on at the moment, ‘we are re-powering a fifty year old classic motor yacht, by stripping all of the engineering out of the engine rooms and putting in a new diesel electric system’. All of this works towards increasing efficiency which ergo leaves the boat more environmentally sustainable than what it used to be.

What people really want to hear about is the exclusive cruising opportunities available to owners and clients whilst they are travelling around Australia. Blackwell’s answer has this market cornered, ‘it’s endless’. The Echo Yachts representative kindly supplied us with some examples of cruising opportunities in the interview above.
