MYS 2023: Feadship’s Harmonious Blend of Technology and Design

By Frances Flannagan

Feadship's Senior Specialist Bram Jongpier and Head of Design Tanno Weeda joined us at the Monaco Yacht Show on day one, showcasing the ways in which Feadship harmoniously blend technology and design into their superyachts. From existing projects, to innovative yet realistic concepts, Feadship leads the way in futuristic, yet achievable, designs.

Proudly showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show this year, 83.5m SAVANNAH represents the incredible ways that Feadship is leading the way in sustainability. With counter rotating propulsion, she reduces emissions by up to 30 percent, showing her to be, ‘still ahead of the pack, even though she is eight years old.’

SAVANNAH is evidently ahead of her time, and 84m OBSIDIAN represents the next step in innovation, raising the bar on efficiency. She is less conventional, with an increased freedom in her design and arrangement, an example of technology supporting design,

Whilst OBSIDIAN is close to achieving net zero as she runs on HVO, DUNES, Feadship’s new concept design, represents even more additional savings as she is designed to run on methanol and fuel cells, meaning that there are energy savings beyond CO2.

The holistic design of DUNES showcases the harmony between technology and design, which Senior Specialist Bram Jongpier and Head of Design Tanno Weeda perfectly articulate. Notably, the engine room has been moved forward. The engine room is the most comfortable place on the boat, so this design choice not only showcases freedom in design, but in innovative thinking, as the technological adaptations have resulted in comfort being put at the forefront of the design.

Jongpier beautifully summed up what is at the heart of Feadship’s designs: ‘It’s not about what we’re doing today, it's about what we could be doing tomorrow.’ Feadship has set the precedent for the work of the future, and will undoubtedly continue to strive towards exceptional innovation as DUNES represents.
