MYS 2023: Lürssen Yachts on Driving Sustainability & Innovation
For shipyard giant Lürssen Yachts, 2023 has been a flury of launches, deliveries and construction updates. We welcomed Lürssen CEO, Peter Lürssen, to the interview studio on the first day of the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show to hear about the German yard’s latest new builds and their strive for building long-lasting, sustainable superyachts.
‘We’ve had a fantastic year…’: Three monumental deliveries so far this year for Lürssen highlight the dedication of the German shipyard for delivering exceptional superyachts in regard to length, opulence and innovation year after year. Lürssen CEO Peter Lürssen commented on the 146m Terrance Disdale-designed motor yacht OPERA, who initially took the industry by storm following her delivery, shortly followed by the unique 90m NORN, and the 138m Espen Oeino-designed Project LUMINANCE.
Showing their incredible heritage and expertise, Peter also shared which vessels are currently on display at the Monaco Yacht Show this year, including the recently refitted, and new charter market addition 97m CARINTHIA VII: ‘She’s one of the early Tim Heywood’s and I will always call her an iconic yacht. She’s over 20 years old, but still a classic.’
‘People can see that if you buy a Lürssen they’re still exceptional after 10-20 years of lifetime.’
When asked about the 114m Project COSMOS, the CEO commented: ‘She’s an exciting design, with a very exciting client and exciting technology.’ Fitted with fuel-cell technology, this spectacular 100m+ vessel will be able to remain at anchor for night use for up to 25-30 days or she has the capability of sailing over 500 miles at a slow cruising speed.
It is clear that Lürssen is making significant steps in regard to a greener superyacht industry, and we can’t wait to see what comes next from the yard.
