MYS 2023: Luxury Projects on Embracing Design Challenges and Reducing it’s Carbon Footprint

By Frances Flannagan

Joining us for the ninth year in a row, Laura Pomponi, CEO and Founder of Luxury Projects, sat down with Shari Lieu at our interview studio at the Monaco Yacht Show. As a company that embraces challenges as well as striving to be as eco-conscious as possible, Luxury Projects stands out as a highly-esteemed design studio within the industry.

The exceptional nature of Luxury Projects is highlighted by the fact that, after eight previous interviews at the Superyachts.com studio in Monaco, the design firm continues to have a plethora of new projects and initiatives to discuss. Luxury Projects has four yachts on display here in Monaco, one of which being 90m NERO, a timeless vessel which has never before been shown to the public. The studio has had an exceptionally busy year, delivering three yachts all around the 500 gt range.

CEO Laura Pomponi discussed her Spaceline catamaran series, the first exterior project completed by the studio, along with the new support catamaran concept. Described by Pomponi as a ‘toykeeper’, this design will play host to a diverse range of amenities, perfect for those who wish to make the sea their playground.

With a great focus on sustainability, Pomponi discussed the two ways in which Luxury Projects reduces its carbon footprint: prototyping new material, and developing an innovative supply chain.

‘During the last year, since Covid, I experimented [with] this supply chain… so everything [is] produced within ranges of 40 miles so we don’t have so much stuff coming from elsewhere and, in this way, we contribute to reduce the footprint.’

The studio prides itself on seeing projects through from concept to creation, Pomponi commented: ‘As I always say, I like to be a chameleon with the client and try to absorb the ideas or the style he wants for his own boat.’ This flexibility and willingness to embrace design challenges showcases the spectacular nature of the studio.

With new projects in the works, including a new 74m and 40m, we cannot wait to witness the exciting future of Luxury Projects.
