MYS 2023: Pantaenius on Not Leaving Insurance to be an Afterthought

Pantaenius has long been established as a global leader in yacht insurance, offering a wealth of expertise with worldwide offices across Europe and in Australia. “We provide everything from quotation and policy documents through to the actual claims service so we’re a one-stop-shop,” explains Michelle van der Merwe, Superyacht Key Account Manager of Pantaenius.

With 17 years herself at Pantaenius, Michelle is amongst the experts helping the company’s clients to navigate the insurance market.

Michelle downplays the attention given to lithium batteries as a major risk to yachts, though does stress the importance of not treating insurance as an afterthought when it comes to the proliferation of new technology.

In terms of maintaining their position as market leaders, Michelle puts this down to Pantaenius’ ability to be present and to communicate. “We attend as many conferences as we can. Because we have global offices, we can have people in all areas of the world attending all these events. Then talking to people – we know people in shipyards, surveyors designers. We talk and hopefully educate at the same time.”
