MYS 2023: Pascoe International on Tenders as a Calling Card

By George Bains

Tom Southern, Managing Director of Pascoe International, joined Shari Liu in the Superyachts.com Interview Studio on the final day of the Monaco Yacht Show 2023. Tom discusses the importance of tenders as a calling card for the superyacht experience, while sharing details of exciting current projects at Pascoe.

For over 20 years, Pascoe International has established itself as a brand renowned for iconic tenders tailored to the mothership, recognised for style, comfort, and reliability. For Tom Southern, the tender has a unique role to play in the superyacht experience.

“As yachts are getting bigger and as there are more and more yachts, they are often anchored out in the bay,”explains Tom. “The tenders become the calling card. They are the first thing that the guests see. That’s exactly the first impression and also the first and last thing guests experience. It needs to continue that standard and attention to detail of the mothership, from the moment guests step onboard to the moment they step off.”

Mirroring the superyacht experience and level of quality is firmly entrenched in the approach taken by Pascoe International, with the company boasting a wealth of in-house expertise capable of managing all aspects of a build.

“The philosophy first and foremost is to design and build tenders which match the quality and attention to detail of the motherships,” continued Tom Southern. “A lot of that comes not only from the quality of the manufacture and the teams building them, but from listening to the clients, the owners themselves and the crew, and implementing feedback.”

Tom and Shari discuss a diverse range of projects recently completed at Pascoe, but one which gets particularfocus is the new 12-metre Open Sport, marking a move into the chase boat market for Pascoe.

“This is one I’m personally quite excited about,” reveals Tom. The 12-metre Open Sport project begun after a discussion with a client following last year’s Monaco Yacht Show, with the brief to have an entirely independent chase boat to explore further afield. The resulting tender fuses luxury, functionality, and adventure.

“It’s set up for deep sea fishing and diving, it can accommodate 16 guests, but then it also has a fully guest appointed dayhead, not the sort of thing you usually see on a tender or sports boat. This is a superyacht-standard dayhead. The owners can spend a day exploring away from their yacht, swimming, having fun, cooking onboard, and then they can get changed and go straight out for dinner.”
