MYS 2023: Reymond Langton on the Metamorphosis of H3

By George Bains

Pascale Reymond and Andrew Langton of Reymond Langton Design joined Shari Liu in the Superyachts.com Interview Studio during the 32nd Monaco Yacht Show. There much to catch up on after a year that began with the quite remarkable (re)launch of Oceanco’s H3.

Reymond Langton Design had some stunning projects on display at the Show this year, notably the first ever public appearance of the 91m Lurssen superyacht Lady Lara. As Pascale explains, this happened quite unexpectedly even for her and Andrew, but made a fantastic story.

“Lady Lara came here by surprise,” explains Pascale Reymond. “We only knew a few days ago that she would arrive here. We also have ACE here, another yacht that we did in Holland, and she is the baby of Lady Lara, which is what’s interesting.

“For us it was quite incredible to have both there because it was unexpected, and the Owner of ACE was surprised too to see Lady Lara.”

As Andrew goes on to explain, having both superyachts present at the show delighted the owner of ACE, who had an even greater appreciation for the design of his yacht.

There has been no greater headline this year that the launch of Oceanco’s Project H3 – which had been kept a close secret for years. Not a refit, perhaps not even a rebuild, but a complete metamorphosis of the original superyacht, Reymond Langton were behind the design of this ground-breaking project.

“It’s quite an extreme before and after if you see Indian Empress and then see her now as H3, it’s a sculpture now,” reflects Andrew Langton.

“When we got the enquiry from the Owner to supposedly refit the yacht, we said we can only do this if we rebuild it,” says Pascale. “We thought we can’t do a quick fix, not an in-between, it has to be beautiful or nothing.”

Andrew adds: “We treated it as a newbuild in the end. We replanned the boat completely, the whole layout of the boat is different.”

Prompted on their design philosophy and relationships with clients, Pascale and Andrew say “the key to any successful project is to listen, and embrace their brief and jump on the ride, bring something new that they perhaps hadn’t thought about and can get excited about. Ultimately to have fun with it, we love creating bespoke yachts. When you have an Owner that wants to do something special, that inspires us.”
