MYS 2023: The Unified Presence of The Destination Hub
Joining us on the final day of the Monaco Yacht Show was May-Ling Chun, Director of Tourism for St. Maarten Tourism Bureau, Kenroy Herbert, Chairman of the Anguilla Tourist Board, and Mellissa Lake, Conseillere Territoriale of the St. Barts Tourist Board. These three nations have banded together to form a unified presence entitled ‘The Destination Hub’ which will serve as a platform to promote tourism within the stunning North Eastern region of the Caribbean.
Located in the North East of the Caribbean, St. Maarten, Anguilla, and St. Barts are each equipped with their own diverse and unique offerings as holiday destinations, whilst collectively representing the pinnacle of luxury. St. Maarten has a diverse culture with 150 nationalities living on the island, making it a harmonious location where the fusions of cultures have resulted in a vibrant paradise. Anguilla is the most laid-back island, with Kenroy Herbert describing a vacation on Anguilla as ‘pretty much beach, good cuisine, and a lot of relaxation’, setting it apart as the ultimate peaceful location. FInally, St. Barts is an exclusive escape; a small island with exquisite cuisine and excellent beaches, perfect for those who wish to wind down in a private setting.
The diversity of offerings resulted in ‘The Destination Hub’ being founded in 2021, a collaborative effort between the three nations. May-Ling commented, ‘When the Destination Hub was created, it was the right formula for us to go with…we are the North Eastern Hub of the Caribbean, and St Martin airport is the hub where everybody flies into.’ This formula shows the creation of the Hub to be excellent for logistics: creating a central area to increase the ease of access to the islands. This is further reflected in the development of a unified cruising process which is currently in the works:
‘You want them [the yachts] to be able to cruise freely throughout the coastline and the ocean and the seas of these islands.’
This will be a gamechanger for the Hub as the main goal of this initiative was to create a ‘resort on the sea’; if it’s easier to travel between the islands, it will help the Captains of yachts, resulting in visitors having a better experience of destinations.
