MYS 2023: Winch Design’s Commitment to Translating Desires into Realities

By Frances Flannagan

We were delighted to speak with Aino Grapin, CEO of Winch Design at the 2023 Monaco Yacht Show. Talking us through some yachting projects from the past 12 months, including the stunning 67m PROJECT SPARTA, Grapin tells how Winch’s ability to translate design dreams into realities is at the heart of the company’s philosophy.

Winch Design has had an incredibly busy year, with four yachts set to deliver in the next few months. Specialising in both exterior and interior design, the studio has an incredibly diverse and exciting portfolio.

At the heart of Winch Design’s ethos is its ability to bring the owner’s vision to life, resulting in designs which perfectly reflect their desires.

'I think there are clients where they really want to be the hand, and it’s all about empathy and listening and making sure that we can translate their desires into a design reality that works.'

The design firm certainly understands the importance of design to the clients, with Aino Grapin, CEO of Winch Design, commenting: 'Their unique lifestyles are what we have to create: it’s an experience, not just a space.'

A perfect example of the company’s extraordinary capabilities is 67m PROJECT SPARTA, a unique and elegant yacht with a low profile. Alongside her stunning exterior is an interior which is characterised by each deck being based on an element: water, earth and air. Grapin commented, 'connecting it all is this beautifully carved oak staircase to journey through the elements. I think it's a very beautiful and poetic approach to the interior.'

In keeping with current trends is the Flexplorer 146. She is currently in build, with sustainability and clean living at the heart of her design, promoting the health of the planet as well as the health of the family on board.
