MYS 2024: Lürssen's Year of Milestones and Innovations in Superyacht Building
Peter Lürssen joined us in our studio at the 33rd edition of the Monaco Yacht Show and discussed their extraordinarily busy this year with recent launches, such as the 122m luxury motor mega yacht KISMET, who has enjoyed back-to-back charters all summer due to high demand. The shipyard is also making strides with PROJECT COSMOS, who could set a new industry standard. Additionally, the 123.2m GOLDEN ODYSSEY made history as the largest yacht to attend the Monaco Yacht Show, while the newly delivered 82m superyacht HAVEN boasts a record amount of outdoor space.
In a spectacular turn of events, 123.2m GOLDEN ODYSSEY has captivated industry attention this year at the Monaco Yacht Show, making her the largest yacht to ever attend the show. Additionally, the newly delivered 82m superyacht HAVEN, having been delivered this year, stands out from other yachts within her size group by encompassing a record breaking amount of outdoor space.
Lürssen is optimistic about the upcoming testing phase for the methanol fuel cell in PROJECT COSMOS, ‘which will be a major step ahead, and interestingly enough the whole industry tends to now look towards methanol fuel cells… so we have a big step ahead there.’
Lürssen Yachts is celebrating an impressive landmark of 150 years of yacht building heritage, and Peter Lürssen reflected on this journey: ‘our first boat we did was a rowing boat, a very simple boat’, highlighting the extent to the evolution Lürssen has seen through the years.
Shari Liu gained insights into the German yard's opinion on how the economic climate across the world is affecting the yachting industry. Lürssen explained that while the yacht market within the 60-70 metre range is surprisingly robust, the overall economic situation in the world is somewhat tense, however Lürssen expresses confidence that every company is preparing well for potential challenges ahead.
As Lürssen celebrates its 150th anniversary, the company reflects on its rich heritage and adapts to current economic challenges. As the shipyard move forward, Lürssen's commitment to innovation and quality ensures they will continue to thrive in the competitive yachting landscape.
