MYS 2024: Turquoise Yachts on Using Proven Platform to Fill the Void

By Frances Flannagan

Shari Liu had the pleasure of speaking with Burak Akgul, Executive Director of Turquoise Yachts, on the first day of the 33rd edition of the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS). Reflecting on the unparalleled nature of Turquoise’s team, Akgul shared insights into the current vessels under construction, and the Turkish yard’s new offering to the industry with regards to smaller vessels based on a proven platform.

Turquoise Yachts has returned to the Monaco Yacht Show in a brand new stand, showcasing its exciting new offering to the industry: the 750 - 900 GT range. Burak Akgul, Executive Director of Turquoise Yachts, commented: ‘It’s a vessel that we basically designed to fill what we felt was a void at the lower end of what we can offer.’

This new range has arisen from Turquoise’s desire to develop a smaller range on a proven platform, developing something new and exciting for the industry.

79m TORO is due for delivery later this year, 76m Project Arrow and an 87m are due for delivery later next year, and an 80m will hit the water before 2027. The shipyard also has a ‘very powerful, and very beautiful’ 42m sailing sloop under construction, which will be ready by the end of 2025.

Akgul reflected on INFINITE JEST, a yacht that is not pueposefully an explorer, but has the capacity for adventure, allowing her Owners ‘to enjoy a very remote and very singular corner of the world.’

Turquoise Yachts is synonymous with boat building in Turkey, as the founders pioneered a strong ethos within the country and developed it. For Akgul, ‘the heritage of yacht building in Turkey is absolutely Turquoise.’ The Executive Director himself has close ties with the development of boat building in the region, and has had ‘the privilege of working with Turkey for 35 years.’

The success of the Turkish yard undeniably lies in its exceptional team: ‘We have a unique advantage with one of the most important attributes, which is it’s team,’ reflected Akgul, as he reflected on the 500 dedicated employees who make Turquoise Yachts the iconic yard that it is.
