MYS 2024: Wintech on Innovation & Predictive Maintenance
At the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, Shari Liu welcomed Joseph Adir, Founder of Wintech, into the famous Superyachts.com interview studio. During the conversation, Adir discussed his company's history, its innovative services and the revolutionary impact that Wintech has had on the superyacht industry.
In the mid-1980s, Joseph Adir began to make his mark in the high-tech sector by developing communication equipment for IBM. His expertise evolved into advanced systems for communications: a field he thrived in until his retirement in 1998. However, driven by his expertise in technology and his passion for yachting, Adir realised he could make a significant difference to the industry by merging these two worlds. This decision led him to establish Wintech: a company dedicated to delivering groundbreaking technological solutions tailored for the marine sector.
Adir noted that the aviation industry implemented predictive maintenance on turbines more than 25 years ago. He commented:
‘If it is working for more than 25 years in the aircraft industry and it is working in almost any and every industry in the world at the moment then why can we not implement it into the marine industry?’
His pioneering spirit underscores Wintech’s mission to revolutionise the yachting industry and, by introducing this new technology, it will provide a streamlined solution to the sector. Adir added: ‘If we are able to find the holy grail for predictive maintenance for the marine industry, it would be amazing.’
Adir also further elaborated on Wintech's strategic choice to focus on the superyacht market. He explained that this sector presents a unique playground for cutting-edge technology and innovation due to its inherent value and financial capacity. Advanced technological solutions often come with a significant price tag, making the superyacht industry a more viable market for such innovations compared to other sectors that may lack the necessary capital.
In addition to discussing Wintech’s initiatives, Adir spoke enthusiastically about Yachting Ventures, a company led by Gabriella Richardson. This organisation is dedicated to nurturing young startups within the marine industry, helping them grow and thrive. To date, Yachting Ventures has supported over 70 startups, and the brand is currently working on an ambitious project to create a marine tech hub, which will be an industry first.
