MYS 2025: Championing Sailing Yachts with Bernard Gallay
At the Monaco Yacht Show 2025, Bernard Gallay, CEO of Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage, shared his distinctive perspective on the evolving world of superyacht brokerage, particularly the rising appreciation for large sailing yachts.
Known for championing sail over motor, Gallay described a renewed enthusiasm among buyers, signalling a possible new era where sailing yachts reclaim their status in the luxury market. He recalls selling ATLANTIC last year, a 64.5-metre classic racing schooner replica famed for its historic design and performance, but noted, 'actually we are more and more developing towards the motor yachts'. Gallay explained.
Gallay highlighted key shifts in client expectations over the past year, noting increased focus on sustainability, size, versatility, and charter potential. 'People are looking for yachts which consume less fuel, thats for sure, so there are new solutions towards the hybrid boats'. Gallay observed broader geographic interests, with owners and charters exploring destinations beyond the Mediterranean and Caribbean, influencing which yachts gain prominence in sales.
Looking ahead, Gallay envisions a brokerage market that values boutique, personalised service even more, with his company committed to maintaining its reputation for quality and expertise amidst a changing landscape. The interview offered a compelling look at the future of sailing yacht brokerage through the eyes of one of its most passionate advocates.
"Last year we achieved some very nice sailing yacht sales, including the 65m ATLANTIC"
