MYS 2025: Espen Oeino On Nuclear Energy and Opportunity
Espen Oeino, founder of Espen Oeino, joined us here at Superyachts.com at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show to reflect on a landmark year for the studio and the wider industry. Known for his innovative, efficiency-driven designs, Oeino offered a thought-provoking perspective on the path toward sustainable yachting, from cutting-edge concepts to clean energy solutions.
A standout topic was the studio’s work on nuclear propulsion. He discussed a new modular nuclear concept designed for long-range, low-emissions cruising. ‘You don’t buy the reactor, you buy the power,’ he said, describing how this model could redefine energy sourcing in yachting. While still in early stages, the concept positions nuclear as a serious contender for achieving net-zero targets by 2050.
Looking at the broader landscape, Oeino touched on how global shifts continue to reshape the industry. ‘In every crisis, there is an opportunity,’ he noted, referencing the cyclic nature of the market and the rise of technologies like AI. He emphasised the importance of being proactive, saying, ‘opportunities happen when you create them.’
