MYS 2025: MDL Marinas on Making the UK a Home Port for Superyachts
Tim Mayer, Sales and Marketing Director at MDL Marinas, joined us in the Superyachts.com Interview Studio at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show to share how the company is redefining premium marina experiences in the UK.
Now underway is the most ambitious investment programme in MDL’s 50-year history, a £40 million, four-year commitment focused on infrastructure, customer service, and sustainability. Central to this vision is Ocean Village Marina, the UK’s only 5-star marina, which has seen significant upgrades and a rise in superyacht traffic, with vessels now reaching up to 80 metres.
Sustainability featured prominently in the conversation. From a £600,000 investment in solar power to biodiversity initiatives like oyster restoration and closed-loop refit systems, MDL is embedding environmental responsibility into daily operations. The company is also implementing the BREEAM certification framework, rare in the marina world, which has already helped deliver a 54% reduction in CO₂ emissions. ‘Sustainability for us is all about how we fit that into our standard operation,’ Mayer explained.
Looking ahead, MDL is expanding shoreside power capacity, enhancing refit infrastructure, and building a comprehensive 360-degree support network across its 18-strong marina portfolio, positioning the UK as a growing destination for the global superyacht fleet.
