MYS 2026: Benetti on 150 Years of Building for What Comes Next

By Keelin Brook

A century and a half after Benetti first began building yachts in 1873, the shipyard's presence at Monaco this year makes one thing clear: heritage here isn't something innovation has to work around — it's the foundation it's built on. From hybrid propulsion to a newly unveiled concept, this year's projects treat 150 years of craftsmanship less as a legacy to protect and more as a starting point to build forward from.

Hosted by Shari Liu, Marco Valle, CEO of Benetti, joins Superyachts.com at the Monaco Yacht Show to discuss how one of yachting’s most established names is approaching its next chapter. From hybrid technology to new design concepts, the conversation looks at how Benetti is evolving its offering while keeping the experience and craftsmanship that have defined the shipyard for generations firmly in view.

"Within Benetti itself, innovation is part of our DNA."

Nowhere is that balance more visible than in the Green Route programme, which draws on more than two decades of sustainability research. Twenty years is long enough to have moved past easy wins — the kind of research that's now surfacing where genuine, meaningful progress is still possible, rather than where it's simply convenient to claim. That work has increasingly pushed the yard toward changes that go beyond materials and fuel efficiency, into how a yacht is actually designed and run from the outset.

That thinking shows up directly in Dagger, which pairs conventional propulsion with electric technology and a salt-battery system — a combination that doesn't just change what's under the hull, but what life on board actually feels like day to day, from noise and vibration to how owners think about range and efficiency in the same breath.

Perseverance takes the custom conversation somewhere equally interesting. Developed in close collaboration with her owner, she reflects how the definition of "full custom" keeps shifting — less about a fixed menu of options, and more about a genuinely collaborative process that reshapes the brief as it goes. The result is a yacht that feels less like a selection from a catalogue and more like an ongoing dialogue between owner and shipyard.

And then there's Clear Waves, Benetti's newly unveiled 70-metre concept — a vision less concerned with matching what's already on the water than with imagining what life on board could look like next.

For a shipyard measuring its history in centuries, it's a reminder that longevity has never meant standing still.
