New Yacht Marina to be Built in Andaman Islands

By George Bains

Asia-Pacific Superyachts (APS) has announced that a new 50 yacht marina is set to be built at Port Blair Harbour in the Andaman Islands.

The construction of the marina will provide a boost to Islands as they look to recover from the setback of Covid-19, and it will facilitate superyacht visitation to what is a pristine and breath-taking part of the world.

The Andaman Islands boast picture perfect coastal hideaways in an isolated oasis of the Indian Ocean. Crystal clear waters, tropical rainforests and sublime sandy beaches provide the perfect basis for a superyacht escape. While there are picturesque anchorages to be found around the region, one impediment to superyacht visits has been the lack of strong marina infrastructure. Developments are now being pushed by the Andaman & Nicobar administration and the Port Management Board to attract yachting travel, including this significant Port Blair marina project.

R. Rathnam, the head of APS in the Andaman Islands, said that “currently international sailors and visiting yachts and superyachts are required to stay at anchorage due to the absence of a dedicated marina. Now a yacht marina is planned for the inner part of the Port Blair Harbour which will provide the required logistics and repair facilities for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.” Rathnam is working alongside local tourism and government agencies to arrange the annual ‘Sail the Andamans’ Yacht Carnival.

The new development would see a state-of-the-art 50 yacht marina placed at the heart of Port Blair Harbour, including a passenger terminal, local shops, food courts, security and everything needed to ensure a comfortable stay.

Of the 572 islands that make up the Indian territory, only 37 are thought to be inhabited. The region provides a perfect sanctuary for superyacht adventures looking for secluded luxury and awe-inspiring diving spots. Luxury resorts can be found on Havelock Island, the most developed of the A&N Islands, while on the surfing paradise of Little Andaman guests can enjoy an inspiring elephant safari and meet sea turtles on the idyllic white beaches. The introduction of such a marina is sure to be met with enthusiasm from captains and guests eager to explore this stunning area of the world.
