ODISEA Sets Sail: Lürssen and RWD Deliver a Yacht Built Around Modern Life
There is a particular kind of confidence that comes from knowing exactly what you want to be. ODISEA, the new 78.20 metre delivery from Lürssen that departed Germany today on her maiden voyage, has it in abundance.
Built under the project name ACE 21, she represents a first for the German shipyard in one significant respect. Despite Lürssen having delivered more than 20 sub-80 metre yachts since 2000, roughly a third of everything the yard has built in that period, ODISEA marks the very first collaboration between Lürssen and British studio RWD, who took on both exterior and interior design. For a shipyard of Lürssen's stature, a genuine first is worth noting.
RWD's approach is legible from the moment you see her. The silhouette is purposeful rather than showy, built around a vertical bow and clean lines that prioritise clarity over ornamentation. Expansive glazing runs throughout, dissolving the boundary between inside and out and pulling natural light deep into the vessel. Inside, the palette is warm and considered. Natural tones, soft woods and pale marble form the backdrop, with curated artworks and layered finishes adding depth without noise. The philosophy is one of family oriented living, and it shows in every spatial decision.
RWD commented: 'The collaboration between RWD and Lürssen has been driven by mutual respect, the client's vision and a shared ambition for excellence. The result is a yacht that speaks to quiet confidence, considered design and truly elegant liveability.'
The standout feature aboard ODISEA is the Beach House, a glass encased lounge on the main deck that opens on three sides via three metre sliding doors, connecting directly to an al fresco deck with a teak lined pool. Engineered and constructed entirely in house by Lürssen, it is a demonstration of the kind of complex glazing capability that very few yards in the world can match. Beyond it, the amenities read like a brief written by a family who actually intends to use the yacht. A foredeck sports court adaptable for basketball, pickleball, yoga or pilates. A sundeck that transitions from open air terrace to enclosed skylounge, complete with Jacuzzi, bar, fire pit and dining for up to 20 guests. Dual outdoor cinemas, a wellness retreat and a dedicated water sports area with diving and fishing facilities.
Peter Lürssen, CEO of Lürssen, said: 'Every yacht we build asks something new of us. Working with RWD on ODISEA allowed us to push new boundaries in both engineering and arrangement. The result is a yacht designed entirely around modern life at sea. She is a proud addition to our fleet.'
On the technical side, ODISEA carries Lürssen's patented SCR exhaust system as standard, delivering a meaningful reduction in NOx emissions. Dan Robsham, Owner's Representative at Mariner Technical Services, added: 'It was a pleasure to work with the Lürssen and RWD teams during the design and build of this amazing yacht.'
ODISEA departed today. By any measure, she was worth the wait.
