Palumbo SY Approves Significant Investments

By George Bains

Palumbo Superyachts Marseille has given the green light to significant improvements at the shipyard after being awarded a government concession for the next 21 years. The government tender was first granted to Palumbo shipyards in 2014, and the Grand Port Maritime of Marseille has renewed the concession to the entire French shipyard.

The concession came into force on 1st July 2020, which has prompted PSY Refit to approve significant investments to increase its working capacity and overcome challenges of the future, while continuing to deliver maximum quality of service.

Among these upgrades will be a new 48 x 18 metre floating dry dock, capable of listing up to 500 tonnes. The new dry dock has been assigned to the shipyard to enhance its facilities and perform ground work inside the watershed.

Guilio Maresca, General Manager of PSY Refit Marseille, expressed his delight at the renewal. Maresca said “The improvement activities that we have been constantly carrying out since we settled on the French coast are giving us great satisfaction. The renewal of the concession allows us to plan a series of infrastructure investments that will bring an increase in the services offered in the short and long term.”

Palumbo’s refit facility in Marseille currently boasts from 4 dry docks, a 95m watershed, a new dry dock and a 300m+ pier to ensure that this multifunctional shipyard can manage any kind of superyacht project both in and out of the water.

Palumbo Superyachts has enjoyed a highly successful season of refit work, both with a steady growth in new business but also importantly with a large number of repeat customers. The Marseille shipyard is part of the Palumbo network with includes 4 other facilities in the Mediterranean (Ancona, Naples, Malta and Savona). Earlier this month, Palumbo brand ISA revealed details of the in-contruction Classic 65m

The news from Marseille reaffirms that Palumbo should not only be known worldwide for the magnificent newbuild superyacht of Columbus, ISA, Extra and Mondomarine, but also for its strength in the refit sphere.
