PBIBS '23: Cross Chartering on The Evolution of Yacht Transportation
On the opening day of the Palm Beach International Boat Show, our presenter Shari Liu was joined in the Superyachts.com Interview Studio with Paul Haber, President of Cross Chartering Yacht Transport, along with CEO, Christophe Thienpont.
Cross Chartering is the largest yacht transporter to and from North America and focuses exclusively on the transportation of yachts.
Through their highly skilled and experienced management and operations team, their experts are able to provide safe, reliable, and cost-effective yacht transport solutions worldwide.
Cross Chartering has become known among yacht owners, builders, brokers and captains for their reliable sailings throughout the year, competitive prices, customised logistical solutions and exemplary customer service.
“The Palm Beach show is one of our favourite shows. It’s a great chance to meet all the brokers and dealers. We also like to see our individual customers. It’s a great opportunity to reconnect with everyone we’ve met over the course of the year in one spot.” says Paul.
“It’s been an evolution. I started the company thirty years ago and we were a project cargo carrier, but stumbled by coincidence into the yacht building market in Taiwan. That’s where we shipped our first yachts. From then on, it has become so important as a trade.” explains Christophe.
“We have been a major carrier for the last 22 years. We have also developed a more local yacht transportation between the U.S. east coast and west coast, and U.S. to the Med. We have majorly diversified our customer base, with now more than 50,000.”
“There are different carriers that ship in different parts of the world but in the trading that we’re in – we’re the largest. We have a great combination in this trade lane. We do it better than most. There’s a lot of moving parts in shipping a boat, we have a whole team here and in Antwerp, and we do it so smoothly." adds Paul.
