Project THUNDERBALL: CRN’s 70-Metre Masterpiece Nears Completion

By Nora Hart

Project THUNDERBALL is taking her final shape as CRN advances the construction of their 70-metre M/Y 145, a fully bespoke superyacht that brings together refined design, technical innovation and meticulous craftsmanship. Developed by CRN and Ferretti Group’s Superyacht Division, with exterior lines and preliminary naval architecture by Vripack Yacht Design and interiors by Nauta Design, the project unites design, usability, and technical rigour in a clear and deliberate way.

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, Project THUNDERBALL is conceived as a sophisticated displacement yacht with a strong focus on efficiency and onboard comfort. She spans five decks, measures 70 metres in length with an 11-metre beam, and carries a gross tonnage of 1,100 GT. Propulsion comes from twin MAN V12 engines delivering a cruising speed of 12 knots and a top speed of 15.5 knots, while an advanced Energy Storage System enables peak shaving and silent operation at anchor, significantly reducing fuel consumption.

‘She's a masterful combination of naval engineering and craftsmanship,’ said CRN. ‘A sophisticated, one-of-a-kind superyacht, where the interiors are created around the idea of functional aesthetics, with an accurate focus on beauty in every detail.’

Inside, the yacht reveals an interior concept rooted in practical refinement. Nauta Design has curated spaces that blend stone, leather, wood, metal and textiles, each selected and processed with exceptional care. The design maintains continuity between interior and exterior areas, with geometrics and proportions flowing seamlessly from one space to another. Lighting plays a pivotal role, combining bespoke fixtures and hidden sources to enhance materials, artworks and architectural details without overwhelming the atmosphere.

Accommodation is arranged for 12 guests in an owner’s suite and five VIP cabins, supported by quarters for 15 crew across nine cabins. Technology is fully integrated throughout, remaining discreet yet highly sophisticated, reinforcing the yacht’s calm and timeless character.

Construction is progressing in line with schedule at the Ancona shipyard. With launch planned for spring 2026, Project THUNDERBALL stands as a defining example of CRN’s commitment to tailor-made design, where innovation, craftsmanship and understated elegance converge in a truly distinctive superyacht.
