Returned, refitted, redelivered: Amels 242 SYNTHESIS
Amels 242 Synthesis has been redelivered following a refit at Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen facility, marking a return to her original build yard. Delivered in 2021 as part of the Amels Limited Editions series, the 74-metre motor yacht has completed her first refit period.
As an Amels-built yacht, her return to Vlissingen places the refit within the same yard responsible for her original construction. Michel Coens, Head of Refit & Services at Damen Yachting, said: 'A refit is rarely just about change. It is about recognising the enduring value already present in a yacht and carrying that forward with care, precision and deep technical understanding. For SYNTHESIS, returning to the yard where she was originally built brings a special depth to that process. With our knowledge of her design, engineering and build history, combined with the discipline and craftsmanship of a full-scale new build yard, we are able to help preserve her character while preparing her for the future.' Her exterior lines are by Tim Heywood and interiors by Winch Design. She is arranged for 12 guests, supported by a crew of 18 plus captain.
While the scope of this project remains private, its timing coincides with sustained activity across the refit sector. 2025 and 2026 have emerged as particularly active years for large‑scale refits and rebuilds, with more yachts entering yard periods that span from technical upgrades to full interior and systems transformations .
This trend is no longer limited to older platforms. Even relatively recent deliveries are now entering scheduled yard periods, reflecting both operational intensity and the need to continually optimise complex modern systems.
Synthesis represents a clear example of a yacht returning from refit while still within the early phase of her operational life. Her redelivery from Vlissingen adds to the growing number of refit completions emerging from Northern European yards, highlighting how owners are increasingly investing in both technical and aesthetic upgrades to maintain their superyachts at their operational and visual best.
"A refit is rarely just about change. It is about recognising the enduring value already present in a yacht and carrying that forward with care, precision and deep technical understanding."
