Riva 88’ Folgore: Tradition Meets Innovation

By George Bains

Unveiled at the Ferretti Group Private Preview 2020, Riva’s all-new 88’ Folgore is an exciting sport-fly which fuses masterful innovation with Riva’s heritage style.

The Riva brand epitomises the notions of luxury and a ‘Made in Italy’ style, forever immortalised in its timeless yachts and now also in film. Its latest project embodies all of the historic values of this Italian icon, while simultaneously harnessing innovative technologies to provide a magnificently beautiful yacht. This is a sign of Riva’s strength in production and creativity, as well as its resilience to come out strongly from 2020.

Riva 88’ Folgore is the heir to one of Riva’s best-selling yachts, and features significant new additions to both her exterior and interior design. Officina Italiana Design are the studio behind the yacht’s sumptuous design, with the Product Strategy Committee led by Piero Ferrari and Ferretti Group’s Engineering Department collaborating on the project. Efficiency is a key cornerstone of the Riva 88’ Folgore, which is built from composite materials with carbon fibre reinforcements in the superstructure. Materials such as marble, crystal glass and stainless steel have been used throughout the yacht without sacrificing performance.

The yacht features Riva’s classic mahogany and steel detailing, which is mixed with carbon fibre elements to epitomise the blend of past and present. The resulting design is sophisticated and functional, with innovative features incorporated into the design, notably a glass roof in the superstructure which swings open both towards the stern and the bow.

Riva 88’ Folgore delivers a comprehensively redesigned stern concept, with a rear door that swings open into two different positions. The first opens parallel to the waterline to provide guests with a 6sqm beach club, while the door can also submerge to launch the tender. There is ample space on the exterior decks for guests to soak up their environment, including a 22sqm multifunctional cockpit area with a large dining area and a sofa which transforms into a sunpad. A huge C-shaped sofa in the bow provides further exquisite comfort for guests, while more sunpads are found on the deckhouse.

The interior styling certainly lives up to Riva’s stellar reputation for opulence, with the onboard décor of both the main and lower decks is characterised by a carefully chosen mix of wood, leather and steel. All interior areas are at least 2m in height, giving a spacious feel to this yacht, and there are plenty of amenities to keep guests entertained. In the lounges is a large ice-coloured Poliform sofa and a 55 inch television, with a grey marble Poliform coffee table to match the furnishings. The main dining area on the port side is complete with an expansive tinted glass table, featuring a steel base and accompanied by grey Minotti chairs.

The accommodation is housed on the lower deck, and comprises of four cabins which include a full-beam owner’s suite in the centre of the yacht. This 20sqm owner’s suite can be customised in three different layouts to suit the owner’s preferences, all boasting incredibly luxurious amenities and furnishings that embody the ‘Made in Italy’ style.

The remaining accommodation is made up of two VIP cabins, one with a double bed and another with convertible twin beds for flexibility, along with a further double cabin. All cabins come with ensuite and the rooms are fitted with tinted mirrors and widescreen televisions which have been paired with wood, leather, fabric and colours to match the main deck.

Riva 88’ Folgore is the latest exciting success story in the never-ending tale of luxury and innovation that Riva has crafted over so many years at the forefront of yacht design.
