Riva In The Movie: The Celebration of an Icon

By George Bains

Riva In The Movie, a short film which celebrates both the power of cinema and the iconic Riva brand, made its international debut at the Venice Film Festival. Starring Italian actor Pierfrancesco Favino, the film was shot entirely in Venice following Favino as he weaves through the moonlit canals onboard a legendary Aquariva yacht.

Superyachts and cinema will be forever intertwined. Riva, a brand of Ferretti Group, has perhaps the strongest relationship with the silver screen. The exquisite luxury Italian yachts have featured in everything from James Bond films to award-winning arthouse films such as The Great Beauty. Riva In The Movie is a pure celebration of the values shared by yachts and cinema, notably those of style, grace, creativity and visionary innovation.

The film follows Francesco Favino as he navigates his way through Venice’s famed locations, under an enchanting fog in a dream-like journey. With Piazza San Marco, Rialto bridge, the Lido el Cinema all featuring in the short film, we are treated to Venice at its most spectacular. Favino’s inspiring narration is matched by the beautiful soundtrack which pays homage to Nino Rota, the brilliant composer known for his work on The Godfather and The Leopard.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group CEO, expressed his pride at an emotive and powerful cinematic masterpiece which does justice to Riva’s stellar reputation. “The celebration of cinema with Riva’s magnificent boats,” said Galassi, “which have starred in so many films and introduced the whole world to Italian style and creativity: that is our aspiration for Riva in the Move, a powerful short film starring the most accomplished and famous Italian actor in the world, Pierfrancesco Favino, against the backdrop of Venice’s splendours. Riva in the Movie is dedicated to everyone who believes in the magical power of imagination and talent.”

The Aquariva plays a starring role as the co-star, becoming the latest Riva yacht to dazzle in theatres. Riva’s iconic mahogany and contemporary boats have been admired on screens all over the world for more than seventy years. The story of Riva in the Movie is also told in an accompanying book by the same name, which is available through Riva. The book comprises of 300 pages covering 39 films which have featured Riva yachts, with original posters, backstage photographs and nearly 187 actors.

The celebration of the Riva’s history in film will continue as an exhibition at The Gritti Palace in Venice, the location of the magnificent Riva Lounge. The exhibition will showcase the story of Riva’s role in numerous films told through extraordinary images. Riva and Ferretti Group are at the forefront of Made in Italy yacht style, with such an internationally renowned heritage associated with luxury lifestyle. This relationship with film will no doubt continue long into the future, and we look forward to seeing more from Riva both on the water and on the silver screen.
