Rolex Swan Cup Cancelled

By George Bains

The Rolex Swan Cup, which was scheduled to take place from September 7th to 13th at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, has been cancelled.

The organisers of the annual sailing event confirmed the cancellation was due to an increase in the infection curve and several outbreaks in the Costa Smeralda area and Porto Cervo. The decision has been made in the interests of guests safety due to the recent rise in cases.

In July, we reported that the Rolex Swan Cup would again be returning to the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda for the 21st edition of the event. Since then, there have been further cancellations to major yachting events, including Cannes Yachting Festival. Over 60 yachts had registered to participate in the Rolex Swan Cup, however unfortunately the event has become the latest casualty to the realities of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The decision is certainly a wise one as during these times health and safety are paramount concerns, though we look forward to seeing a return to the sailing calendar soon.
