Sanlorenzo Presents SX120: The Flagship of a New Yachting Philosophy

By Sophia Spanton

Sanlorenzo has officially unveiled the SX120, the largest yacht in its crossover SX range and a defining moment in the evolution of its design language. Measuring 36.6 metres with a gross tonnage of 270, the SX120 blends the volumes and comfort of a flybridge yacht with the purposeful edge of an explorer, delivering a contemporary vision of life at sea.

Set to make her global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September, the SX120 introduces a number of firsts...

Most notably, she is the first superyacht in the world to integrate Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform. This new propulsion system uses four compact 1,000 horsepower steerable pods to increase fuel efficiency, reduce emissions and dramatically shrink the engine room footprint. The freed space has allowed for more expansive guest areas and layout flexibility, without compromising performance or range.

The yacht’s beach area is a particular highlight. With opening side terraces, it extends to an impressive 70 square metres and includes a retractable swimming pool that can be hidden beneath a sliding sundeck mechanism. The result is a versatile space that maximises contact with the sea while maintaining aesthetic simplicity and safety in navigation.

The SX120 has been designed in collaboration with Zuccon International Project and Piero Lissoni, with interiors that emphasise openness, light and a seamless flow between inside and out. The Main Deck features a full-beam owner’s suite with direct access to a private foredeck, while the Upper Deck offers a 360-degree panoramic view and can be configured as a media room, dining area or lounge. A newly conceived Flybridge features the Smart Island, a modular seating system that can be adapted for different uses and levels of privacy.

From a technological and layout perspective, the integration of the IPS Professional Platform has reshaped the possibilities of this size category. Nicola Pomi, VP Marine Sales for Volvo Penta, described it as 'a technological evolution geared toward efficiency', pointing to its reduced energy losses, improved manoeuvrability, and lower environmental impact.

Sanlorenzo’s SX120 is more than a flagship of a successful range. It is a representation of how design, propulsion and sustainability can come together to reshape expectations in contemporary yachting.

"SX120 represents the natural evolution of a range that has changed the way yachting is conceived and redefined the experience of living on board, introducing a new idea of space, livability and connection with the sea."

Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO, Sanlorenzo.
