Seeing Double: Royal Huisman Unveil 65m AQUARIUS II

By Heather Collier

Dutch Shipyard Royal Huisman have revealed their latest endeavour, Project 408. The 65m 212ft Aquarius II is "close to perfect", acting as a "big sister" to Aquarius, who was first in class at her St. Barth Regatta 2019 debut, and will be setting sail once again this March. Royal Huisman are honoured when clients request a repeat project, and are delighted that Aquarius' owners felt confident enough to bring their ideas for a second project to the forefront.

An exquisite, talented, and meticulous team within the superyacht world are proud to have brought her to life; with her vision expertly guided by Project Manager Godfrey Cray from Dykstra Naval Architects and Interior Designer Mark Whiteley. In their eyes, she is the definition of what it truly means to be a modern classic.

With a strong emphasis on performance, AQUARIUS II will have a state-of-the-art carbon rig, integrated sail handling from Rondal, structured luff sails, and a retractable keel for optimal stability under racing conditions. She will also feature groundbreaking hybrid technologies for power generation and management. Benefits will include ‘peak-shaving’ for optimum energy efficiency and flexible power generation.

Royal Huisman aim to create a flexible, can-do approach to design for all of their clients, and are committed to fulfilling each owner's dream for their vessel. "We are very honored with the trust the owners of AQUARIUS have in Royal Huisman. The talented team is very motivated and delighted to be working on such a prestigious project," said Royal Huisman CEO, Jan Timmerman.

Elegance and family comfort are a huge part of the fabric of AQUARIUS. Her opulent, timeless exterior, classic interior and harmonious decor will all be dramatically enhanced and taken to new heights in AQUARIUS Il. She will have an abundance of additional space and volume; continuing to showcase a luxurious yet understated lifestyle for all who come aboard.

"AQUARIUS has proved to be an exciting sailboat,” commented her owners, “and she sails gracefully and powerfully. Her layout has exceeded expectations, with ample opportunities for both privacy and socializing. She is a ship for everyone."

With the design and engineering preparations for AQUARIUS II well underway, construction of the Alustar® aluminum hull and superstructures are also on track to commence this summer.

We look forward to her delivery in 2024.
