Perfectly nestled between the popular cruising grounds of Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are well regarded by Captains, Owners and crews for their advanced superyacht facilities. Yet, these two cities offer much more than their world-class facilities.
For superyacht guests and crew, there are plenty of reasons to stay and play in South East Queensland. From inner-city luxuries, to long stretches of golden sands and adventurous hinterland escapes, Brisbane and the Gold Coast are packed with entertainment and adventure.
Joined by key representatives of the Australian superyacht industry and superyacht Captains, we explore the incredible opportunities and experiences in both cities.
“We are renowned for our lifestyle,” says Patricia O’Callaghan, CEO of Destination Gold Coast and incoming CEO of Tourism & Events Queensland. “I think that’s what is also appealing for those longer-term stays for Captains and crews as well. The fact is that we boast some of the most brilliant and beautiful natural assets in the world.
“Whether it’s our 42km of golden beaches, our heritage- listed rainforest, all the waterfalls in between or our world-class tourism operators, we’re able to offer so much in terms of lifestyle, opportunity and memorable experiences.”
With its marinas and shipyards providing a one-stop-shop for superyachts, guests have easy access to the plethora of activities throughout the city and surrounding area.
An hour north of the Gold Coast, Brisbane is another major destination for superyachts. Like the Gold Coast, Brisbane’s award-winning facilities provide superyachts with easy access to a city full of life.
“Brisbane is emerging as a really vibrant destination to visit,” explains Phillipa Harrison, Managing Director of Tourism Australia. “It has really developed its cruise facilities over the last decade and it is a great gateway to accessing Far North Queensland.”
The River City has also been selected as the host city for the 2032 Olympic Games, providing yet another drawcard for superyachts to visit the region.
“The 2000 Olympics was the first real taste Australia had of the superyacht industry and the potential it had,”says David Good, CEO of Superyacht Australia. “32 years later when Brisbane hosts the Olympics, the River City is perfect – it’s a deep water river, the vessels will be able to park within walking distance of a lot of the venues. It’s going to be huge.”
Rivergate Director Tom Hill adds that “the 2032 Olympic Games will be a special time for Brisbane and our amazing industry. We will see an influx of superyachts from around the world, visiting our regions and enjoying themselves in this wonderful place.”
Whether for superyacht Owners and guests, or Captains and crew, South East Queensland’s cities are an integral component of the Australian yachting experience.
