Superyacht Australia Soiree Showcases Thriving Industry

By George Bains

The third annual Superyacht Australia Soirée was held at Jones Bay Wharf on 26th February, celebrating a superyacht industry and destination that is very much rising to prominence. Luxury goods, champagne, caviar and plenty of yachts were in store for over 340 Soirée guests…

The Superyacht Australia Soirée was first held in 2020 to celebrate the passing of the Special Recreational Vessel (SRV) Act in December 2019, a significant move to allow international superyachts to enter Australiaand bolster the charter market. Now one of the highlights of the yachting calendar Down Under, the third annual event reflected an industry carrying plenty of confidence and excitement into the future.

In the centre of Sydney, with the Harbour Bridge as a backdrop, guests were treated to a display of ten superyachts along Jones Bay Wharf, with a yacht-hop starting from 2pm. Among the participating superyachts showcased by the event’s broker partners and captains were Infinity Pacific, Perle Bleue, The Star, One O One, Rascal, Chaos, Sea Raes, Quantum, Little White Bikini, and Mon Reve.

Joachim Howard, Managing Director of Ocean Alliance, said, “As central agents, we represent a large percentage of the superyacht charter fleet in Australia. Aligning with the only large luxury yacht show in the region makes sense and we were proud to be a part of this hugely successful event once again.”

With the removal of restrictions for international visitors, the Australian charter market is now in a position to benefit from the full potential of the SRV Act. Despite the obvious challenges of the last two years, Australia has seen an influx of vessels into the country to provide more options on the market. Notable international superyachts such as Lady E have also taken the opportunity to visit and provide unique charter experiences in the country’s diverse cruising grounds.

With iconic Italian yacht builder, Benetti Yachts, returning as major partner, there was plenty else for guests to indulge in at the Soirée, with the ‘Benetti Lounge’ providing a selection of fine wines from Tyrrell’s Wines, as well as caviar from Pacific Provisions and spirits from Manly Spirits Co at their gin tasting station.

“The positive response to this year’s Soirée by key stakeholders reflects the confidence in the sector which has seen phenomenal growth in the last 12 months despite the challenges of Covid-19,” said David Good, Superyacht Australia CEO.

“The Soirée provides the perfect opportunity to view some of the finest vessels in the Australian fleet and reinforces yacht charter as the best way to experience amazing parts of Australia in true comfort, safety, and luxury.”

The upcoming Australia InDepth documentary will further explore the cruising opportunities and luxury service throughout Australia, as we explore one of the world’s most enticing charter destinations.
