Superyacht Spotlight: CONTIGO, The Yacht Behind Sanlorenzo’s 50Steel Vision
With the recent launch of the second 50Steel, attention aptly returns to the yacht that defined the series: CONTIGO. Delivered in 2024 as the inaugural 50Steel, and formerly known as ALMAX, she set a technical and architectural benchmark that continues to shape the 50-metre segment.
Her defining feature is the ‘floating penthouse’ arrangement, which positions the master suite on the upper deck. Enabled by Sanlorenzo’s Hidden Engine Room (HER) system, an innovative redistribution of technical spaces, the traditional lower-deck engine room is reduced and reorganised. This allows for a full-beam Ocean Lounge directly connected to a generous beach club at sea level. The impact is structural as much as aesthetic: the yacht’s social heart is brought down to the waterline, prioritising proximity to the sea over additional interior volume.
At anchor, the layout reveals its appeal. Floor-to-ceiling glazing frames views, the Ocean Lounge extends naturally into the beach club, and wellness areas, including spa, sauna and gym, are positioned with direct access to the swim platform. The arrangement feels less compartmentalised than what could be expected for yachts in this bracket, favouring flow over formal separation. A comprehensive toy inventory, including four F5SR SEABOBs and a Wajer chase boat, complements this emphasis on active, water-focused charter.
Interiors by Studio Lissoni adopt a residential approach. Natural materials, muted tones, and precise architectural detailing create an atmosphere closer to a luxury apartment. The elevated master suite benefits from increased privacy and forward views, complete with private office and dual dressing rooms, while four additional guest cabins bring total accommodation to 10 guests.
Technically, CONTIGO is equally forward-thinking. Developed in collaboration with Siemens Energy, her green methanol fuel cell system is the first of its kind installed on a yacht in this class, capable of generating electrical power for hotel loads with significantly reduced emissions. Combined with hull optimisation, advanced energy management and reduced vibration and noise levels, the approach reflects Sanlorenzo’s commitment towards environment-friendly performance. A 4,000-nautical-mile range and 12.5-knot cruising speed position her comfortably for a vast array of charter itineraries.
Available for the 2026 season with Cecil Wright, CONTIGO represents a working example of how technical innovation and spatial rethinking can define and elevate onboard experience.
"I believe what sets us apart is the ability to drive industry innovation, embracing cutting-edge solutions not only in design, always elegant and comfortable, but also in the field of technology and sustainability, to achieve the ambitious goals of reducing our environmental footprint."
