Superyacht Spotlight: Feadship’s Breakthrough

By Sophia Spanton

Delivered in 2025, BREAKTHROUGH (Feadship 821) stands as the largest yacht ever built by Feadship in terms of interior volume and, most significantly, represents the world’s first hydrogen fuel-cell superyacht, a groundbreaking achievement in the quest for greener luxury yachting.

Recently BREAKTHROUGH has been making waves, quite literally, as she departed Miami recently, en route to Gibraltar.

With exterior and interior design by RWD and naval architecture by De Voogt Naval Architects, Breakthrough features a striking seven-deck profile that balances bold, modern lines with a refined, timeless elegance. Her interior takes inspiration from coastal living, showcasing light tones, natural textures, and beautiful sculptural detailing throughout.

One of the most dramatic features onboard is the spectacular spiral staircase that encircles a glass lift, creating a stunning vertical centrepiece. Guests can enjoy an impressive 8.2m infinity pool, a glass-walled Nemo lounge for underwater viewing, multiple Jacuzzis, and a large, luxurious beach club.

With a substantial gross tonnage of 7,247 GT, Breakthrough offers generous accommodation for up to 12 guests across 15 staterooms. The owner’s deck is particularly impressive, featuring twin suites, two private offices, and a forward Jacuzzi terrace, creating a secluded sanctuary high above the sea.

Breakthrough is powered by ABB pod drives, supported by MTU generators that can run on HVO biofuel. Her pioneering hydrogen fuel-cell technology marks a significant step forward in reducing the environmental impact of large superyachts while maintaining the performance and range expected at this level.

Breakthrough is currently available for charter through Edmiston, with weekly rates starting from €3,500,000.

As one of the most technologically advanced superyachts on the water today, Breakthrough perfectly embodies Feadship’s continued leadership in pushing the boundaries of design, innovation, and sustainability in the superyacht world.
