Tankoa x Luca Dini's New Sportiva Line: Meet the Sportiva 55

By Jenna Mehdi

In a press conference this afternoon, Genoa-based shipyard Tankoa revealed its revolutionary new Sportiva line. Designed in collaboration with architect Luca Dini and comprising 45, 55 and 65m models, the line is the result of extensive market experience and feedback from owners, guests and crew.

There are some differences between the models in the Sportiva range; while the 55m and 65m models are built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the 45m is an all-aluminium build. However, all of the models in the range are brought together by the shared characteristics of a sleek, elegant and supremely sporty style - a signature hallmark of Tankoa Yachts - and an intelligent receptivity to exactly what clients are looking for in their yachts.

The Sportiva line is also defined by its unusual inverted bow, merging both vertical and traditional elements in an eye-catching new design. This has the benefit of extending the yacht’s overall length, while providing protection from seawater. As Luca Dini observed of this unusual new feature: ‘We have designed yachts with vertical bows, and we have designed yachts with traditional bows. This is the best of both worlds.’

Looking at the first model in the series, the Sportiva 55, Tankoa CEO Vincenzo Poerio described the harmonious elements of style, innovation and ample storage space - all under 500 GT - as ‘love at first sight’

A main focal point of the Sportiva 55 is the yacht’s generous beach club / swim platform. A terraced aft deck serves as an on-water relaxation space, with loungers arranged around a flush swimming pool. Access to a spa zone complete with gym and sauna, as well as a side-loading garage for water toys, is complemented by a large hull window with partial underwater views.

The Sportiva 55 accommodates 10 guests in five spacious staterooms on the lower deck, as well as a dedicated owner’s suite on the main deck. The owner is able to enjoy their own personal foredeck, with space for an open-air cinema and jacuzzi. A 7m tender, crew tender and Sea Doo are also stowed on the open foredeck, hidden from view by the bulwarks.

In keeping with the demands of the modern day, the Sportiva 55 can also be fitted with hybrid propulsion system as well as retro-fitted with alternative future propulsion systems when they become available. ‘In this case the engine room can bemoved forward so the four guest cabins on the lower deck have direct access to the spa and beachclub. Fantastic!’adds Poerio.

Although the Sportiva 55 is closest to the demands of Tankoa’s current client base, designer Luca Dini will look to retain the same family feeling in the lightweight 45m version, and scale it up in the 65m proposal.
