The Collaborative Craft of CAMILA: Liveable Luxury at Sea

By Nora Hart

With the delivery of the 50-metre CAMILA, Bilgin Yachts and Hot Lab demonstrate the power of sustained collaboration. She is the product of years of joint problem-solving, where engineering and design inform each other at every stage to create a vessel that is both technically superb and elegantly inhabitable.

What sets this collaboration apart is the genuinely integrated approach. Rather than working in sequence, shipyard and studio develop engineering and design in parallel. On CAMILA, questions of layout, flow and atmosphere are treated with the same rigour as hydrodynamics or range, resulting in a yacht where engineering performance and liveability feel inseparable.

This is evident in her 499GT volume, which offers unusually generous space for her size. Circulation between decks, the transitions between interior and exterior areas, and the handling of natural light have all been resolved through a shared lens. Bilgin’s engineering expertise supports Hot Lab’s ‘Architecture for Voyagers’ philosophy, with long-range capability and stability enabling a more considered onboard experience.

Inside, the collaboration becomes tactile. Warm, neutral tones, organic shapes, and layered materials create a calm ambience, while integrated lighting subtly influences each space. Even complex material choices, such as the multi-stone palette, were realised through close coordination, demonstrating the technical fluency that comes from an established partnership. Distinctive hallmarks from previous Hot Lab projects, subtle detailing, and a balance of architectural rigour with softness, are visible throughout, creating continuity while allowing CAMILA to express her own character.

With multiple yachts now in development across several platforms, Bilgin and Hot Lab are evolving a consistent design language while preserving flexibility for individual owners. Small adjustments in proportion and flow are used to refine each vessel’s personality, ensuring that even within a series, each yacht feels unique.

The result is a vessel that avoids compromise entirely, bringing together Italian design sensibility and Turkish engineering precision in a way that feels wholly cohesive. CAMILA demonstrates the value of a collaboration built on trust, experience and mutual understanding, showing how sustained partnerships can transform ambition into a seamless, liveable reality at sea.
