The New ‘Green Route’ at This Year’s Cannes Yachting Festival

With the esteemed Cannes Yachting Festival set to kick off next week, the industry is awaiting in anticipation for the array of 5 - 45m yachts due to debut at the show. With a green agenda on everyone’s minds, spectators will certainly have an eye out for the latest sustainable superyachts, projects and solutions on offer at the six day event. Organisers of Cannes Yachting Festival have now revealed that they will be showcasing a new ‘Green Route’ at this year’s show, aimed at highlighting the boats, products and eco-efficient solutions on exhibition.

‘The yachting industry has not escaped ecological awareness. Reconciling nautical activities whilst respecting the environment is tomorrow’s challenge’, commented organisers of the Cannes Yachting Festival, as they announced their brand-new sustainable initiative for this year’s show, ‘even though the industry seems to have difficulty in coming together around a single impetus, many isolated initiatives are emerging and offer a glimpse of the yachting of tomorrow: more respectful of nature and more in tune with current issues.’

At the 2019 edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival, organisers of the show revealed a brand-new ecological initiative named the, ‘Energy Observer’ educational exhibition, that presented visitors with the industry’s work on hydrogen and renewable energies. Going one step further last year, after a year's hiatus due to the Pandemic, the show launched a brand-new ‘green trail’ which took visitors on an ecological path to visit the exhibitors that were developing or presenting a concept in favour of ecology.

This year, as the show marks its 44th edition, it will welcome an even more exciting sustainable experience to visitors. The ‘Green Route’, will take guests on a course through the boats, superyachts, products and eco-efficient solutions on display at the show, aimed at those wanting to, ‘discover or consolidate their knowledge about the environmental evolution of the marine industry at sea and marine ecosystems’. Visitors will be able to spot all exhibitors that are participating in the ‘Green Route’ by a green named logo on their stands. After the success of the very first edition, and driven by the desire to go further with a sustainable experience approach, the Cannes Yachting Festival is enthusiastic about this new green addition.

Also returning to the show this year is the green nautical zone exclusively dedicated to 100% electric and hybrid boats. Introduced to Cannes Yachting Festival for the first time last year, the zone will present more than a dozen vessels from 8m to 12m. Additionally, situated from Vieux Port to Port Canto, several eco-responsible boats and yachts will be on display, such as Benetti’s 37m B.Yond 37 yacht, GOGA, and Sunreef Yachts’ 24m 80 Sunreef Power Eco.

Cannes Yachting Festival’s new ‘Green Route’, and its additional eco-concious additions, is undoubtedly yet another positive direction in showcasing the industry’s sustainability advancements in creating a greener superyacht sector.

"Our goal for 2022 is to both expand the offer of the show and to give greater visibility to eco-friendly approaches, new technologies and luxury in the noblest possible way."
