The World’s Best Superyacht Marinas Announced

By George Bains

Voted for by superyacht captains and crew, the ACREW Superyacht Business Awards 2021 recognised the Best Superyacht Marina, rewarding quality of service and facilities. The Mediterranean gem of Port Montenegro took home the top prize, with Australia’s Coral Sea Marina announced as the runner-up.

Last year, Porto Montenegro was awarded the ACREW Adriatic’s Best Superyacht Marina and has gone further this year to be crowned World’s Best Superyacht Marina, selected by captains and crew.

The Superyacht Business Awards are considered to be the most prestigious and recognised global awards programme, where ACREW’s network of over 15,000 Captain and Crew Members are invited to vote for the superyacht businesses that deserve global recognition in their field. The Best Superyacht Marina Award recognises the winning marina for providing the highest standard of services and facilities to Superyacht Captains & Crew, alongside their willingness to assist Superyacht guests – ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay for all.

Porto Montenegro is highly regarded as the top marina in the Mediterranean, and with its state-of-the-art facilities and perfect cruising destination it became the first marina to earn the 5 Gold Anchor Platinum accreditation.

“Porto Montenegro is delighted to have received the World’s Best Superyacht Marina Award as voted by our clients through the Superyacht Business Awards,” says Tony Browne, Marina Director at Porto Montenegro. “Our entire team is dedicated to providing the best possible service and it is wonderful to confirm that our vision aligns with our clients’ expectations.

“We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and we look forward to welcoming you back to Porto Montenegro soon.”

Coral Sea Marina, based in Australia’s exquisite Whitsunday region, finished as Runner-Up behind Porto Montenegro in the Best Superyacht Marina category. A significant scoop for Australia, Coral Sea Marina will be fortunate to have a facility large enough to accommodate not only superyachts, but a rapidly-growing trophy cabinet following its earlier successes this year.

“We are honoured to be recognised within this prestigious category,” said Coral Sea Marina CEO, Kate Purdie. “This comes after receiving the Australian Superyacht Industry Service Provider of the Year earlier in the year and we couldn’t be more delighted to continue to support the superyacht industry.

At Coral Sea Marina we pride ourselves on impeccable facilities and outstanding service, but also providing a superyacht experience that exceeds expectations on the doorstep of the Great Barrier Reef”.

is the second consecutive year Coral Sea Marina have been named as Runner Up and the recognition is timely for the award-winning superyacht marina, after a solid year of domestic superyacht visitation to the Whitsunday region.

With international borders closed, Coral Sea Marina has proven to be the perfect port for Australian superyachts enjoying the cruising potential of the Great Barrier Reef and Whitsunday Islands.

Domestic superyacht visitation to the marina is up 13%, with many yachts choosing to remain in the Whitsundays as domestic border closures and lockdowns continue to disrupt travel plans.

Captain Peter Cook, MY Playpen reviews their recent visit, “Motor Yacht PLAYPEN has just had the most enjoyable visit to the wonderful Coral Sea Marina Resort. As a world travelling superyacht it is a pleasure to stopover in such amazing spots around the world and this marina is definitely a hidden gem.

“The facilities are terrific with a crew lounge and all the facilities you could imagine. Location is right on the doorstep to the Great Barrier Reef and the superb cruising grounds of the Whitsundays and the staff are just wonderful. This is a definite stop on any yacht’s itinerary.”

A gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Coral Sea Marina is nestled in one of Australia’s most indulgent destinations and is a key hub for visiting and domestic superyachts. Earlier this month, the Coral Sea Academy led initiatives for reef preservation to protect the stunning cruising grounds it is surrounded by.

The ACREW International Superyacht Business Awards have reinforced the value of quality service for superyacht across the globe, and these two marinas are instrumental in enhancing the experience for superyachts and guests in their respective regions.
