Three Hidden Restaurants Accessible Only by Yacht
In the world of yachting, exclusivity often stretches beyond the vessels themselves to the incredible destinations made accessible by the sea. Amongst the most coveted experiences of chartering a yacht is the exploration of restaurants that cater specifically to the boating community. Offering not just exquisite cuisine but an unmatched sense of seclusion and breathtaking views. Superyachts.com uncovers three hidden gems, each offering a unique dining experience and accessible primarily by yacht.
La Fontelina
La Fonteilna is located on the stunning Faraglioni rocks in Capri, Italy. With roots stretching back to the 1940s, this family-run gem captures both Mediterranean flavours and the heart of Capri's spirit. Given its picturesque location, the most convenient and enjoyable way to reach this iconic restaurant is by boat, as the only way to access it by land is via a challenging footpath.
Signature dishes include the catch of the day, grilled to perfection and served with a side of spectacular views. The restaurant's famous spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams) embodies the simplicity and elegance of Italian coastal cuisine. From the terrace, a breathtaking panorama unfolds as the Tyrrhenian Sea stretches out to meet the horizon, creating an unforgettable backdrop to this world-class dining experience.
Following the exquisite food, the experience extends to La Fontelina's beach club, situated just below the restaurant. Here, there is a collection of sunbeds and umbrellas offering an idyllic retreat: the perfect setting for a refreshing post-dining dip or an afternoon of enjoying Capri's sunshine.
BOWA
Located in a secluded bay on Šipan Island in Croatia and accessible only by boat, is BOWA: a family-owned gem known for its unique blend of tradition and modernity. As the fourth generation of renowned Mali Ston fishermen, the Šare family brings a deep-rooted passion for the sea to their cuisine. Whilst their sister restaurant, Bota Šare, fuses Dalmatian and Japanese flavours, BOWA is a pure celebration of Dalmatian heritage and pays tribute to their grandmother's recipes.
BOWA emphasises sustainability, by using local, organic ingredients sourced from within a 50 kilometre radius from the restaurant. BOWA encourages guests to disconnect from the outside world and immerse themselves in nature. Diners can enjoy fresh Adriatic fish, Mali Ston Ostrea Edulis oysters, garden vegetables, and homemade Šipan island olive oil, with the option to take refreshing dips in the Adriatic Sea between courses. BOWA's commitment to eco-friendly practices and its unique setting among carob, fig, and olive trees creates a journey that celebrates family heritage and Mediterranean flavours.
An employee at BOWA provided an insight into their experience of working at the restaurant; it was refreshing to hear their experience:
‘[Working at BOWA is] really amazing. The vibe is chill and, even though there are a lot of guests to welcome, we want to give them all an amazing experience. What makes this place unique is the cabanas we have, similar to Bali, Indonesia and Greece.'
Their main chef curates a new menu every day and a highlight of the restaurant is the interactive element where the chef expertly prepares tuna and oyster dishes in front of the guests' cabanas. From the delicate slicing of tuna for tartar to the artful shucking of oysters, guests are treated to a captivating culinary performance.
Armeni Restaurant
Armeni Restaurant is perched in Armeni Bay, just below Oia, Santorini, and is particularly popular amongst yacht owners due to its secluded location primarily accessible only by boat. The restaurant is known for its intimate setting, fresh fish and unforgettable views of the Aegean Sea.
Their menu changes seasonally, featuring a variety of expertly prepared seafood dishes. The restaurant's commitment to traditional Greek cuisine, combined with innovative culinary techniques, results in a menu that is both authentic and contemporary. While the restaurant is primarily known for its seafood, it also offers a selection of vegetarian and gluten-free options, catering to a diverse range of dietary needs. Additionally, Armeni has a strong commitment to using fresh, local produce, supporting the island's economy and ensuring the highest quality ingredients are implemented in their dishes.
