Van der Valk Shipyard Appoints Evan Kortmann as CEO
Dutch shipyard Van der Valk has appointed Evan Kortmann as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking the next phase in the company’s development following a successful leadership transition.
Kortmann succeeds Enrico Theuns, who stepped in during 2023 to guide the yard through a three-year transition period after founder Wim van der Valk’s retirement in April 2024. Under Theuns’ leadership, Van der Valk strengthened its position in the international superyacht market, successfully expanded into the 30-metre-plus segment, and delivered several notable yachts including LALABE, Jangada, and Shine. He also played a key role in the ownership transition and preparing the business for its next stage of growth.
The appointment comes at a time when the global superyacht industry continues to show resilience. Despite economic uncertainties, demand for high-quality custom and semi-custom yachts in the 25–45 metre range remains strong, particularly among owners seeking personalised builds with strong Dutch engineering and craftsmanship.
The shareholders of Van der Valk Shipyard commented:
'Enrico joined the company with a clear mission, and we are grateful for the leadership, dedication and professionalism he has demonstrated over the past three years. During his tenure, the company continued to develop, strengthened its market position and prepared for its next phase. We sincerely thank Enrico for his valuable contribution and wish him every success in this next chapter of his life'.
Evan Kortmann joins the existing management team alongside Technical Director Bram Kooltjes and Commercial Director Yoeri Bijker. Enrico Theuns will stay on for the coming months to support a smooth handover.
Kortmann brings a clear vision focused on continuing the yard’s reputation for quality. He emphasised that every project starts with the owner’s individual requirements, supported by the shipyard’s experienced team and network of trusted partners.
Founded in 1967, Van der Valk Shipyard is an independent Dutch builder known for premium fully custom and semi-custom motor yachts. The yard specialises in vessels between 25 and 45 metres, combining traditional Dutch craftsmanship with modern construction techniques. Based in Waalwijk, Van der Valk has built a strong international client base by delivering high-quality yachts that balance engineering excellence with personalised design.
This leadership change positions Van der Valk well to capitalise on continued demand in the mid-size custom superyacht segment as the industry looks toward 2027 and beyond.
"We sincerely thank Enrico for his valuable contribution and wish him every success in this next chapter of his life"
