Vintage Motor Yacht FAIR LADY Completes Successful Huisfit

By Frances Flannagan

Launched almost a century ago, 37m motor yacht FAIR LADY has completed an extensive refit at Royal Huisman's Huisfit. She has seen necessary upgrades to ensure that she works efficiently at sea, whilst her heritage has been skilfully preserved.

FAIR LADY is a 37m motor yacht first launched in 1928. Undergoing minor refits throughout the years, she has recently had a thorough and rigorous refit with Huisfit: a significant update to the vessel whilst still maintaining her classic looks.

Huisfit is Royal Huisman’s dedicated division for refit, rebuild and renewal, offering services to all superyachts in the global fleet. The headquarters are located in Amsterdam, featuring three heated main halls and deep seawater quays for in-water work.

The refit company is seeing continuous and growing success, as it draws upon the design, craftsmanship and engineering capabilities of its sister companies Royal Huisman and Rondal. Huisfit caters to a diverse range of both new and repeat clients and an international yacht fleet, offering a plethora of services from refurbishment to complete reconfigurations.

FAIR LADY was purchased in 2021 by her owner, who wished to ensure that his vintage yacht worked efficiently at sea. Huisfit provided all the necessary upgrades in two phases over two consecutive winters, making sure to maintain her classic lines and beauty.

‘The on time and successful relaunch of Fair Lady, is the result of intensive and fruitful teamwork among everyone at Huisfit, as well as the thoughtful owner of Fair Lady and his representatives.’ commented Stefan Coronel, Manager at Huisfit.

Phase one of her refit commenced in November 2021, which included hull repairs and painting, varnish repairs, and maintenance of the main engines, stabilisers and gensets. There was also a substantial amount of work done on the interiors, including the refurbishment of the guest cabins and the installation of new carpets. These tasks were completed in just three months, meaning that the owner could enjoy his yacht in the spring and summer of 2022.

FAIR LADY was returned to Huisfit for phase two of her repairs in September 2022, in which the engine room was stripped, the main engines were overhauled and new gensets and stabilisers were installed. Her hull saw additional painting, as well as repairs made to her plating, however the most significant aspect of phase two was the installation of an entirely new bridge.

This beautiful vessel is well prepared for future voyages and the years to come, whilst her heritage has been successfully preserved. Coroner commented: ‘Thanks to the owner’s vision to preserve Fair Lady’s heritage, this classic motor yacht will not become forgotten history. We are proud to have been a part of the Fair Lady’s new lease on life. We wish fair winds to Fair Lady.’
