Vitters Shipyard Lays Keel for 68m Hoek Design Ketch

By Frances Flannagan

Vitters Shipyard has announced that the keel has been laid of the 68m aluminium ketch, marking the start of her construction. Whilst reflecting the signature design elements of Hoek Design, she will be fitted with an innovative hybrid system and a series of standout elements, including a spacious Owner’s cockpit that will be the focal point of the design.

In a ceremony attended by the Owners and their team, the keel of Vitters Shipard’s 68m ketch was successfully laid, with the Owner himself making the first weld in accordance with the shipyard’s tradition. Lloyds was also in attendance, officially registering and stamping the construction with the hull and project number: 3095.

The ketch was first signed in September 2023, and features a number of elements that reflect Hoek Design’s signature brand, including long overhangs, classic lines and traditional finishes. The naval architect will also be responsible for the ketch’s interior, in collaboration with Bunny Williams of Williams Lawrence inc. who will oversee the interior decor.

She will feature a very spacious Owner’s cabin and guest accommodation aft, alongside three timber-clad deckhouses, whilst the focal point of the layout will be a large, central Owner's cockpit.

Powered by a full hybrid propulsion and energy system, the ketch will boast an emission free period, adhering to regulations in the effort for more sustainable cruising.

Her hull will be constructed with 120 tonnes of aluminium, scheduled to be completed in spring 2025. She will then be moved to a brand new shed for fit out that is currently under construction at Vitter’s yard in Zwartsluis.

The ketch is set to be delivered in summer 2026, with her build being overseen by Van Ineveld & Co. on behalf of the Owners.
