Gulf Craft has committed its support to the ocean conservation Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMAs) programme.

The IMMAs programme led by the Water Revolution Foundation addresses the challenge of where to direct conservation resources.

The project seeks to identify the most important habitats for marine mammals and prioritise them for positive conservation actions in order to restore the balance of life in the ocean.

Chairman of the Emirati shipbuilder, Hussein Alshaali emphasised the importance of those in the yachting industry to demonstrate social responsibility and commit to such initiatives.

He said: “Conserving the marine environment is the responsibility of every stakeholder, and we are strongly committed to initiatives that will help protect the habitats for marine mammals.

"The joy of exploring the high seas is to take delight into the exotic sightings of marine mammals and protecting their habitats must be given top priority.

The Water Revolution Foundation’s programme is currently focused on the North Atlantic which is a popular route for superyachts crossing between the Mediterranean and Caribbean, and as such is a heavily trafficked area of the ocean that the superyacht industry can make informed decisions that ensure more sustainable ocean use.
